Step-by-step workflows

Most real jobs take more than one tool. These are the sequences people use most, with a note on each about where your files go.

Students and applicants

Submitting an application under a 2 MB upload limit

Scholarship, visa and job portals usually want one PDF, in a set order, under a strict size cap — and the documents arrive as phone photos and separate files.

  1. JPG to PDF: Turn the photographed certificates into one PDF, dragging the pages into the order the portal lists them.
  2. Merge PDF: Add your CV and cover letter in front, so the reviewer opens the file to the right page.
  3. Compress PDF: Enter the portal's limit as a target size and let the tool pick settings that fit. Photographed pages shrink the most.

All three steps run in your browser, so your ID scans and certificates are never uploaded to us.

Turning scanned handouts into searchable notes

A stack of scanned handouts is unsearchable: you can't find the one page that mentions a formula. Adding a text layer fixes that.

  1. Merge PDF: Combine a term's worth of scans into one file per subject.
  2. OCR PDF: Recognise the text so you can search it with Ctrl+F while the page images stay exactly as scanned.

OCR runs on your device. The first run downloads the recognition engine and language data, after which it is cached.

Finishing an essay

The last hour before a deadline goes on references, length and clarity.

  1. Citation Generator: Build references from a URL, DOI or ISBN in the style your course asks for.
  2. Word Counter: Check you're inside the word limit, with and without the bibliography.
  3. Grammar Checker: Catch spelling slips and passive constructions before you submit.

The citation lookup goes through our server for URLs and through Crossref or Open Library for DOIs and ISBNs; your essay text never leaves the page.

Contracts, HR and admin

Sending a contract out for signature

A Word draft becomes a final, signed, password-protected PDF in three steps.

  1. Word to PDF: Freeze the layout so it reads the same on every device. Choose paper size and margins as you convert.
  2. Sign PDF: Draw, type or upload your signature and drag it onto the signature line.
  3. Protect PDF: Encrypt the file with AES-256, then send the password by text message or call, never in the same email.

Conversion, signing and encryption all happen in your browser. The password never reaches us, so keep it somewhere safe: there is no way to recover it.

Checking what changed in a returned contract

"We made a few small edits" is exactly when a changed number or a deleted "not" slips through. Compare the versions mechanically instead of by eye.

  1. Text Compare: Drop the version you sent and the version you got back into the two panes — .docx files work directly — and review every highlighted change.
  2. Text Compare: Switch to character mode for amounts, dates and names, where a single transposed digit matters.

Word files are read in your browser; neither version is uploaded.

Sending only the pages someone needs

An insurer needs pages 3–5 of a 40-page bundle, and the rest holds other people's details. Cut it down and mark what it is for.

  1. Split PDF: Type the pages to keep, such as 3-5, and get a new PDF of just those.
  2. Watermark PDF: Stamp "For claim 4471 only" across the pages so the copy can't be passed off for another purpose.

Split PDF runs on our server: the upload is deleted once processed and the result is held only temporarily for you to download. Watermarking is local.

Small business and personal finance

Getting a bank statement into a budget sheet

Statements arrive as password-protected PDFs; budgets live in spreadsheets. Retyping them is slow and invites typos.

  1. Unlock PDF: Remove the password your bank set, using the password you were given.
  2. PDF to Excel: Pick the transaction tables, stack them into one sheet, and export to XLSX or to TSV for Google Sheets.

Both run in your browser. Check the result by confirming opening balance plus credits minus debits equals the closing balance.

Quoting a price with GST

Most invoicing mistakes come from not knowing whether a figure is before or after tax.

  1. GST Calculator: Add GST to a base price, or extract the GST already inside a total, at 5%, 18% or 40% — or the old 12% and 28% for earlier invoices.
  2. Percentage Calculator: Work out a discount or margin before tax is applied.

Calculations run on the page; nothing you enter is stored.

Creators and online sellers

Preparing product photos for a marketplace

Marketplaces want clean backgrounds, consistent sizes and small files.

  1. Background Remover: Cut the product out and place it on white, or keep a transparent PNG.
  2. Resize Image: Bring every photo to the marketplace's recommended dimensions.
  3. Image Compressor: Shrink the batch to a target file size so listings load fast.

The background-removal model downloads once (about 4.4 MB) and then runs on your device; photos are never uploaded.

Sending raw footage or a large export to a client

Email stops at around 25 MB; a video project doesn't.

  1. File Transfer: Upload up to 2 GB per file and send the link. Files are encrypted in your browser and the link expires after 72 hours.

The decryption key travels in the link's fragment, which browsers never send to a server, so we can't read what you send.

Developers

Debugging a failing API call

The response is a wall of minified JSON with a token and a timestamp somewhere inside.

  1. JSON Formatter: Prettify the response, or find the exact position where it stops being valid JSON.
  2. Base64 Decoder: Decode the JWT's payload segment to read its claims.
  3. Timestamp Converter: Turn the token's exp value into a date to see whether it has simply expired.

All three run in your browser, which matters when the payload contains real tokens.

Knowing when an endpoint goes down

A health check that nobody watches is a check that fails silently.

  1. API Monitor: Test the request once, add assertions on status and body, then save it as a monitor with email or webhook alerts and a public status page.

Checks are sent from our server — a browser can't call a third-party API on a schedule. A saved monitor's request is encrypted at rest, and no account is needed.

Teams

Never missing a birthday or work anniversary

Team celebrations depend on someone remembering. Automate the remembering.

  1. WishFlow: Import your team, write a message once, and choose email or a Slack, Teams or Discord channel. Messages go out on the day, in your team's time zone.

WishFlow needs a free account, since it sends on your behalf every year. Birthdays are stored as day and month only, never the year.
