About this tool
Break a PDF apart — into individual single-page files, or by extracting a chosen page range into its own document. One chapter from a long report, one form from a batch scan, one section worth sending: split gives you exactly the pages, nothing more.
How to Split a PDF
- 1
Upload the PDF you want divided — a combined scan batch, a long report, or any multi-part document.
- 2
Choose your split: every page as its own file, or a specific range — pages 12 through 18, say — extracted into a new PDF.
- 3
Download the resulting file or files; the original document remains untouched on your machine.
Why Split PDFs with Wrklyst
- Brief Custody, Then Deletion
- The document is split on our server over an encrypted connection and deleted as soon as it's processed; the split files are held only temporarily so you can download them.
- Pages Preserved Exactly
- Splitting relocates pages without re-rendering them — resolution, fonts, and formatting are untouched in the output.
- No Page-Count Pricing
- Split a five-page memo or a five-hundred-page manual identically for free — no per-page meter.
Splitting Strategy Tips
- Note the page numbers you need before uploading — check them in your PDF viewer's thumbnail strip.
- Batch-scanned paperwork? Split into single pages, then merge related pages back into logical documents.
- Extract the signature page alone when only the signature needs forwarding.
- Name split files by content (contract-pages-12-18.pdf) immediately — 'output(3).pdf' helps no one later.
Frequently asked questions
Why split instead of sending the whole document?
Relevance and discretion. Sending someone forty pages when they need six wastes their attention — and often the other thirty-four contain material they shouldn't see: other clients' records in a batch scan, internal sections of a report. Extracting the pertinent range is both courteous and prudent.
How do I extract several separate ranges from one PDF?
Run the split once per range — extract pages 5–8, then again for 20–23 — which takes seconds per pass. If those extracts should ultimately be one document, feed them to our Merge PDF tool afterward; split-then-merge is the standard recipe for rearranging any PDF's contents.
Does splitting affect quality or searchability?
No — pages are copied structurally, carrying their original text layers, images, and vector content into the new file. Text that was selectable and searchable remains so. The split output is indistinguishable from a document that had always contained only those pages.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Encrypted files need their protection removed first — the split operation must read the page structure, which encryption by definition prevents. Run the document through our Unlock PDF tool with its password, split the unlocked copy, and re-protect the pieces if they'll circulate.
