About this tool
Resize Image changes a picture's width and height in pixels, scales it by a percentage, or shrinks it to a file size in KB. Lock the proportions and type one side to keep the shape, or unlock them to hit an exact size and choose whether the extra is cropped from the centre or the image is stretched. Common social media sizes, from an Instagram post to a LinkedIn banner, are one click away. Resize a whole batch at once and download a ZIP. The resizing happens on your device, so photos are never uploaded.
How to Resize an Image
- 1
Add one image or many. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP all work, and each file shows its current size in pixels.
- 2
Choose how to resize: enter a width or height in pixels, pick a percentage, or set a maximum file size in KB. With proportions locked, the other side updates as you type.
- 3
Resize and download. One image goes straight to your download; several come as a ZIP, each file named with its new dimensions.
Why Resize Images with Wrklyst
- Three Ways to Resize
- Exact pixels for a website slot, a percentage for a quick shrink, or a KB limit for a form that rejects big files. You can also combine pixel dimensions with a size limit.
- Sharp at Any Size
- Large reductions are done in halving steps rather than one jump, which avoids the jagged, aliased look a single big downscale gives in some browsers.
- Private by Design
- Everything runs in a canvas in your browser. Photos never leave your device, and the camera metadata, including GPS location, is dropped from the resized copy.
Image Resizing Tips
- Resize to the size the image will be displayed at; a 4000-pixel photo in an 800-pixel slot wastes most of its bytes.
- For a profile photo or thumbnail, use Crop to fill so faces aren't squashed.
- Keep PNG for screenshots and logos with text; use JPG or WebP for photos.
- When a form gives both a pixel size and a KB limit, set the pixels and fill in the maximum file size too.
Frequently asked questions
How do I resize an image without stretching it?
Keep the lock between width and height closed. Type the width you need and the height is worked out for you, so the picture keeps its shape. If you set both sides with the lock closed, each image fits inside that box without distortion.
How do I make an image an exact size like 1080 × 1080?
Open the lock, enter both numbers (or click a social media size), and leave Crop to fill selected. The image is scaled to cover the new shape and the overflow is trimmed evenly from the edges, so nothing is squashed.
Can I resize an image to a file size like 50KB?
Yes. Choose File size and enter the limit, or pick 20, 50, 100, 200 or 500 KB. The tool keeps the highest quality that fits and makes the image smaller only when quality alone can't reach the limit.
Does resizing reduce quality?
Making an image smaller always discards detail, but at the target size it should look sharp. Enlarging can't add detail that wasn't there, so a small image blown up will look soft. JPG and WebP are saved at high quality unless a file-size limit requires less.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The images are decoded, resized and saved in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so it's safe for personal photos and ID scans.
