About this tool

Run a draft through this checker and it grades your writing A to F while flagging seven kinds of problems in color as you type: misspellings in red, grammar slips in orange, repeated words in yellow, passive-voice sentences in blue, hard-to-read long sentences in violet, plus overused adverbs and weak filler words like "very" and "basically". Click any highlight to see the suggestion, apply a one-click fix or ignore it, or hit Fix All and watch the before/after comparison. A live analysis panel reports your Flesch reading-ease score, grade level, average sentence length, passive-voice percentage, and the overall tone of the piece — formal or casual, confident or uncertain, positive or negative. Everything runs in your browser with no account, and the finished text exports as TXT or a full PDF writing report. It's the pre-send pass for emails, posts, and assignments — a safety net for mistakes your eyes glide over after the third reread.

How to Check Your Writing

  1. 1

Paste or type your draft into the editor — an email, essay paragraph, cover letter, or post caption. Checking happens live on every keystroke; there's no submit button.

  2. 2

Review the color-coded highlights in the analysis pane: click any marked word or sentence to see what's wrong and either apply the suggested fix with one click or ignore the suggestion. The sidebar lists every issue, your writing-quality score, readability grades, and tone.

  3. 3

When the grade looks right, use Fix All for the remaining mechanical fixes, check the before/after comparison, and copy the corrected text or export it as TXT or a PDF report.

Why Proofread with Wrklyst

Your Draft Isn't Harvested
Checking happens within the page you're looking at; unpublished writing is never uploaded to be analyzed, stored, or used to train anything.
Faster than a Reread
Flags appear across the whole text at once, catching in seconds the doubled words and typos that a tired proofreading pass misses.
No Subscription Ambush
Every check is free — there's no monthly plan, trial countdown, or "premium issues" list held hostage behind a card form.

Proofreading That Actually Works

  • Check after your final edit, not before — editing introduces fresh typos into sentences you've already "verified".
  • Read flagged sentences aloud; your ear catches awkwardness your eye forgives.
  • For high-stakes text, follow the automated pass with our Text to Speech tool and listen to the whole piece.
  • Watch your personal repeat offenders — most writers cycle through the same five mistakes forever.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from Grammarly or Hemingway Editor?

It combines both approaches in one free page: Grammarly-style clickable corrections with one-click fixes for spelling and grammar, plus Hemingway-style color-coded readability — long sentences, passive voice, adverbs, and weak words — capped with an A–F grade. Unlike either, nothing you write is uploaded anywhere: every check runs inside your browser tab, there's no account, and no premium tier withholding suggestions.

How is the A–F writing grade calculated?

The score starts at 100 and deducts points for spelling and grammar errors relative to your text's length, the share of passive-voice sentences, hard-to-read sentences of twenty words or more, adverb density, weak filler words, and a low reading-ease score. 90 and above earns an A, 80 a B, and so on. Fixing flagged issues raises the grade live, so you can watch a C draft become an A.

What does the tone detector actually measure?

Three axes, each from word-level signals: formality (contractions, casual vocabulary, and exclamation marks versus formal connectives like "moreover"), confidence (hedging words like "maybe" and "seems" versus assertive ones like "definitely"), and sentiment (the balance of positive and negative vocabulary). It's a heuristic mirror, not a judgment — a casual, uncertain tone is exactly right for some messages.

Will it catch every grammatical error?

No tool honestly can, and we won't pretend otherwise. The checker targets high-frequency mechanical mistakes — common misspellings, doubled words, homophone slips like "your/you're", subject-verb disagreements, and article errors — plus the style problems that make writing heavy. Subtle issues such as misplaced modifiers and factual claims still need a human eye, so treat it as a first filter that clears the obvious so your own proofread can focus on meaning.
