Passport Size Photo Maker
Make a passport size photo online free: white background, 35×45 mm, 2×2 inch and more at 300 DPI, plus a 4×6 or A4 print sheet. Runs in your browser.
About this tool
This passport size photo maker turns an ordinary photo into a correctly sized document photo. It finds you in the picture, swaps the background for plain white or light grey, and crops to the size you pick (35 × 45 mm, 2 × 2 inch, a few country presets, or any size in millimetres), with the head scaled and placed against guide lines for the chin and the top of the head. Download a single 300 DPI JPG for an online form, squeezed under a KB limit if the form sets one, or a print sheet with cut lines: eight 35 × 45 mm photos on a 4 × 6 inch print, or 32 on A4. The photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
How to Make a Passport Size Photo Online
- 1
Take or choose a front-facing photo of your head and shoulders, with even light and nothing covering your face, and drop it on the tool. The first time, it downloads the 4.4 MB cut-out model; after that it starts at once.
- 2
Pick the size and the background. The tool sizes the head automatically and draws a line for the top of the head and a shaded band for the chin. Drag the photo or use the zoom slider until both line up; the arrow keys and + / − work too.
- 3
Choose what to download: a single photo for an online application, with an optional maximum file size in KB, or a 4 × 6 in or A4 sheet to print. Print the sheet at 100% or actual size and cut along the grey lines.
Passport Photo Sizes by Country
The common document sizes and the head size each one asks for. Rules change, so confirm against the issuing authority's current guidance before you print.

Why Use This Passport Photo Maker
- Exact Sizes at Print Resolution
- Every output is rendered at 300 DPI, so a 35 × 45 mm photo is 413 × 531 pixels and a 2 × 2 inch photo is 600 × 600. The resolution is written into the JPG too, so printing at actual size gives the right physical size instead of one three times too large.
- Background Replaced, Not Just Cropped
- The same on-device model as our background remover separates you from the room behind you, so a photo taken against a wall at home ends up on clean white or light grey.
- One Print, Several Applications
- A single 4 × 6 inch print holds eight 35 × 45 mm photos or six 2 × 2 inch ones, laid out with cut lines, so one print at a photo shop or kiosk covers several forms.
- Your Photo Stays on Your Device
- A face photo is sensitive, and this one is never sent to a server. Cutting out, cropping and encoding all run in your browser, with no account and no watermark.
When Do You Need a Passport Size Photo?
- Visa Applications
- Every embassy states its own size: 35 × 45 mm for a Schengen visa, 2 × 2 inches for the US, 33 × 48 mm for China. Pick the preset, print the sheet, and attach the copies the form asks for.
- Exam and Job Application Forms
- Online forms usually want a JPG at a stated pixel size and under a file-size limit. Download the single photo, set the maximum KB, and upload it as it is.
- Bank, KYC and Admission Forms
- Paper forms for account opening, college admission and ID cards still ask for printed passport size photos. One 4 × 6 print gives you eight to keep in a drawer.
- Renewing a Passport by Post
- Postal renewals, such as the US one, need a printed photo at the exact size. Printing your own sheet saves a trip to a studio for a single photo.
Ways to Get a Passport Photo
| Method | Verdict | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Photo studio | Done for you, for a fee | A studio takes the picture, crops it and prints copies, and a good one knows local rules. You pay per set and have to go there, and if a form later wants a digital copy under a KB limit you often still resize it yourself. |
| Pharmacy counter or photo kiosk | Convenient, but tied to local sizes | Common in the US, where pharmacies and shipping stores take 2 × 2 photos while you wait. Fine for a home-country passport, less helpful when you need another country's visa size. |
| Other online photo makers | Varies, and many upload your photo | Many online makers process the photo on their servers, and some add a watermark or charge to download the full-resolution file or the print sheet. |
| Wrklyst Passport Photo Maker | Free, on your device, you take the photo | No watermark, print sheets for 4 × 6 and A4, and an optional KB limit for online forms, with the photo never leaving your browser. The trade-offs: you take the picture yourself, and the automatic head placement is an estimate to check against the guides. |
Tips for a Photo That Gets Accepted
- Stand about a metre in front of a plain, light wall and face a window, so the light falls evenly on your face.
- Have someone else take the photo from eye level; a selfie at arm's length distorts the face.
- Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed, and keep hair away from your eyes and the edges of your face.
- Take glasses off for a US photo, where they have not been allowed since 2016, and check the rules for other documents.
- Keep the original file, so you can make a different size later without retaking the picture.
Frequently asked questions
What is the passport size photo size in India?
The standard Indian passport size photo is 35 × 45 mm (3.5 × 4.5 cm) on a white background, and it is what most Indian application forms mean by passport size. At 300 DPI that is 413 × 531 pixels. For an Indian passport application itself, the photo is normally captured at the Passport Seva Kendra during your appointment.
What size is a passport photo in inches and pixels?
A 35 × 45 mm photo is about 1.38 × 1.77 inches, and a US passport photo is 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm). At 300 DPI, the usual print resolution, those come to 413 × 531 pixels and 600 × 600 pixels. Online forms often state their own pixel and file size, so follow the form where it differs.
How big should the head be in a passport photo?
It depends on the document. In a 35 × 45 mm photo, countries following the ICAO standard want 32–36 mm from the chin to the top of the head, about 70–80% of the photo height, while the UK asks for 29–34 mm. A US 2 × 2 inch photo needs 1 to 1⅜ inches (25–35 mm). The tool draws the range for the preset you choose as a guide line and band.
How do I make a passport photo with a white background?
Upload your photo and leave Background on White. The tool separates you from the background with an on-device segmentation model and fills the rest with white. Hair and loose edges are the hardest part, so a photo taken against a plain, light wall gives the cleanest result.
How do I print passport photos on 4 × 6 or A4 paper?
Under Download as, choose the 4 × 6 in or A4 print sheet. The 4 × 6 sheet holds eight 35 × 45 mm photos or six 2 × 2 inch photos and can be printed at a photo shop or kiosk; the A4 sheet holds 32 photos at 35 × 45 mm, with a 5 mm margin for home printers. Print at 100% or actual size, never fit to page, then cut along the grey lines.
Will my photo be accepted?
The tool gets the size, framing and background right, but acceptance also depends on things it cannot check: a neutral expression with eyes open, even light with no shadows, no glasses where they are not allowed, and a recent photo. Read the issuing authority's photo rules before you print, and check the guide lines yourself, because the automatic placement estimates where your chin is from your outline.
Can I take a passport photo with my phone?
Yes, for most documents. Use the rear camera if someone can help, hold it at eye level about a metre away, and stand in front of a plain wall in even daylight. Avoid the wide-angle lens and close-up selfies, which distort the face. Then make the photo here at the size you need.
What DPI should a passport photo be?
300 DPI is the standard for printed photos, and it is what this tool uses: a 35 × 45 mm photo comes out at 413 × 531 pixels. Online forms usually specify pixels and a file size rather than DPI, so match those numbers when a form gives them.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Finding you in the photo, replacing the background, cropping and saving the JPG all happen in your browser. The only download is the 4.4 MB cut-out model the first time you use the tool, which your browser then keeps.
