About this tool

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, a format that is about half the size of a JPG at the same quality but that most of the world still can't open. Windows needs a paid codec, Android galleries and older apps choke on it, and upload forms for job portals, government sites and marketplaces usually accept only JPG or PNG. This converter turns HEIC (and HEIF) files into JPG in your browser. Drop in one photo or a whole batch, set the quality, and download the JPGs one at a time or together as a ZIP. The photos are decoded on your own device and never uploaded, and the camera metadata, including GPS location, is not carried into the JPG.

How to Convert HEIC to JPG

  1. 1

Drop your .heic or .heif files onto the converter, or click to choose them. You can add several at once. Each photo is decoded in your browser as it is added, which takes a few seconds for a 12-megapixel iPhone shot.

  2. 2

Leave the output on JPG, or switch to PNG or WebP if you need one of those instead. The quality slider starts at 92%, which is visually identical to the original for photos; lower it if you need smaller files.

  3. 3

Press convert, then download each JPG, or download everything as one ZIP. The JPG keeps the photo's full resolution.

Why Convert HEIC Photos Here

Photos Stay on Your Device
The HEIC decoder runs inside the browser tab, so personal photos are never sent to a server. That is the main difference from converters that upload your camera roll and promise to delete it later.
Location Data Removed
iPhone photos usually carry the GPS coordinates of where they were taken. The converted JPG is written fresh from the pixels, so that metadata is left behind, which is what you want before posting or emailing a photo.
Batch Conversion, No Limit
Convert a whole album in one go and take it as a ZIP. There is no daily cap, no watermark and no sign-up.

When You Need HEIC Photos as JPG

Upload Forms That Reject HEIC
Exam, passport, visa and job portals typically list JPG or PNG only. Convert first, then use Resize Image to KB if the form also sets a size limit.
Sharing With Windows and Android Users
A HEIC attachment often shows up as an unopenable file on Windows or an older Android phone. A JPG opens everywhere.
Editing in Older Software
Many photo editors, office suites and print shops still can't import HEIC. Converting to JPG, or PNG for lossless editing, avoids the problem.

Tips for Converting HEIC Photos

  • Keep the quality at 85% or above for photos you might print; drop to 70% only for web uploads where size matters more.
  • Need the result under a size limit, such as 50 KB or 100 KB? Convert to JPG first, then run it through Resize Image to KB.
  • Choose PNG rather than JPG if you plan to edit the image several times, so each save doesn't add another round of compression.
  • Converting removes GPS location. If you need the location kept for your own archive, keep the original HEIC as well.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC?

Since iOS 11, the iPhone camera saves in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) because HEVC compression stores a photo in roughly half the space of a JPG at the same visual quality. It saves storage, but the format is far less widely supported than JPG.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

JPG is also a lossy format, so a conversion re-compresses the image. At the default 92% quality the difference is not visible in normal photos. The resolution stays the same. If you need a lossless copy for editing, choose PNG instead; the file will be several times larger.

How do I stop my iPhone taking HEIC photos?

Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Photos already taken stay HEIC. If you copy photos to a computer over USB, Settings > Photos > Transfer to Mac or PC > Automatic also converts them on the way.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The HEIC file is decoded and converted inside your browser, and the JPG is created on your device. Nothing is sent to Wrklyst or anyone else.

Can I open HEIC files on Windows?

Windows 10 and 11 need the HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store, and the HEVC one is paid. Converting to JPG avoids installing anything.

What about Live Photos and burst shots?

A HEIC file can hold more than one image. The converter takes the primary image, which is the still you see in the Photos app. The motion part of a Live Photo is a separate video file and is not converted.
