About this tool
This analyzer counts paragraphs and sentences and computes your average sentence length, exposing the structural skeleton beneath the prose. Where a word counter measures volume, this measures shape — the rhythm and density that decide whether readers glide through your writing or bounce off it.
How to Analyze Text Structure
- 1
Paste your draft into the analyzer — articles, essays, newsletters, or any prose whose structure you want to inspect.
- 2
Read the structural metrics: total paragraphs, total sentences, and the average number of words per sentence, computed from blank-line and punctuation boundaries.
- 3
Use the numbers to guide revision — break up oversized paragraphs, split marathon sentences — and re-analyze to confirm the shape improved.
Why Analyze Structure with Wrklyst
- Analysis Without Upload
- Structure counting is done by the page itself, so manuscripts and client work never transit a network to be measured.
- Numbers in a Blink
- All three metrics appear the instant you paste — no processing bar, no waiting on a server's mood.
- Free of Strings
- No trial, tier, or login guards the sentence math; the tool simply works when opened.
Shaping Better Prose
- Vary sentence length deliberately — follow a long, winding sentence with a short one. It lands harder.
- One idea per paragraph is the rule that fixes most structural problems automatically.
- Check structure separately for your opening section; dense intros lose readers before the good part.
- Recheck after adding examples — illustrations bloat paragraphs faster than any other edit.
Frequently asked questions
What's a good average sentence length?
For clear modern prose, 15–20 words on average, with deliberate variety around it. Averages above 25 signal reader fatigue territory, while a uniform string of 8-word sentences reads choppy. The average is a diagnostic; the variety around it is where style lives.
How long should paragraphs be for web writing?
Two to four sentences is the working convention online, where text competes with infinite distractions on a glowing screen. Print tolerates longer blocks. If your paragraph count is low relative to your sentence count, you're likely presenting readers with walls of text on mobile.
How does the tool identify a paragraph?
Paragraphs are text blocks separated by blank lines, the universal plain-text convention. Content pasted from some editors uses single line breaks instead, which merges everything into one apparent paragraph — add blank lines between blocks, or interpret the count accordingly.
Why measure structure instead of just word count?
Two 800-word articles can read completely differently: one in six dense paragraphs of 30-word sentences, the other in fifteen brisk paragraphs averaging 14 words. Word count says they're twins; structural metrics reveal one is a slog and the other a page-turner. Editors fix shape, not just length.
